The tea leaves are hand-picked by small farmers located in the famous James Valley (Green tea) and UVA region (Black tea) in Sri Lanka. The leaves are then processed and packed at the organic tea factory Avonlea Hill in Diyatalawa, in Sri Lanka, using a traditional method to ensure freshness and maximise the level of antioxidants. Green tea is made from unfermented leaves and because of this it contains the highest concentration of antioxidants (called polyphenols) in particular a group call catechins which are reputed to have a host of health benefits. It also contains other compounds such as L-theanine, tannin, theophylline, caffeine, vitamin C, minerals and other organic substances. Green tea only has a few calories per cup, so most consider calories in green tea to be zero. It does not contain any fats, carbohydrates, sodium or protein and this is why Nutritional Panels are usually absent on Green Tea packaging. Green tea contains caffeine (unless it is specifically decaffeinated). Green tea contains approximately 30-100mg of caffeine in an average cup, depending on how long it is infused and whether the tea comes loose or in teabags.
